Riserva Naturale Orientata dello Zingaro
|
| Zingaro is the first nature reserve
set up in Sicily. Its beautiful and unpolluted coast, with beaches
and steep walls over the sea, is 7 Km long and from the top
of its mountain you have a wonderful view of the Gulf of Castellammare.
|
| Zingaro is an interesting environment
for its flora and fauna: there are many rare plants and the
existence of varied ecological niches allows an elevated diversity
not to be found in other places on the island, 39 species of
birds nest and reproduce there. There are mainly birds of prey:
buzzard, Kestrel, peregrine falcon. |
| The reserve area is also of major archaeological
interest since in the Uzzo Grotto there was one of the first
prehistoric settlements in Sicily. Perfectly organised for public
enjoyment (paths with precise indications, shelters, water-points,
picnic areas, museums, parking), the reserve can only be visited
on foot, as there are no motor roads inside it. |
